"Coweta, Tulsa Men Die In Fiery Turnpike Crash"; Two people are dead after a fiery head on crash on the Muskogee Turnpike Friday night.
It happened near where the 289th St bridge passes over the turnpike.
Troopers said just after 9 o'clock, 22-year-old Jordan Leland of Tulsa was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the turnpike in a small pickup truck.
Sonya Gibson,47, was in the first car that Leland hit. His truck hit the driver's side of her sedan, and she veered to the right side of the road.
OHP lieutenant Phil Guest said that hot parts underneath her car ignited tall, dry grass. Gibson, of Muskogee, got out before her whole car caught fire. She was taken to a Muskogee hospital and released.
Leland's truck continued until it collided with a third vehicle head on. Dylan Wray of Coweta was riding in a larger pickup truck with his 12-year old-son.
The impact was so great, the front of Wray's truck was completely flattened. Leland's truck burst into flames and landed partially on the center retaining wall. He died on the scene.
Wray, 35, was trapped in his truck for nearly an hour. He was transported to a Tulsa hospital, but pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived.
His son was treated and released from a local hospital.
Shortly before the crash, troopers received reports that Jordan Leland was all over the road and had dispatched a trooper to try and catch him.
